India: Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Plans Marine Biotech / Marine Bioprocessing Center of Excellence
Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies has planned new programmes in the research and education sector, including setting up of a Centre of Excellence in Marine Biotechnology and Marine Bioprocessing. State Fisheries Minister K Babu told the Assembly. An amount of Rs 20 crore is estimated to be the cost of the new Centre, Babu said, replying to a calling attention on the development plans of the University.
An Animal Health Management Laboratory has been planned with a total investment of Rs 56 lakh in association with National Fisheries Development Board, he said. A Study Centre to facilitate advance researches in climate change would be set up, he said, adding, it would help meet challenges faced by fisherfolk living on the coastal belt due to climate change.
